How do I know if my bid is highest or winning?

  1. If you placed a bid higher than the reserve you will see the lot box shows you as the ‘winning’ bidder or subsequently ‘outbid’ if someone then placed a higher bid.
  2. If the reserve has not yet been met, it will not display to you if your bid is the last bid or the highest bid -this will only show if the bidding passes the reserve price.
  3. There is limited value to knowing who placed the last bid because if the reserve is not met you will not win the item.

How to bid on a timed Auction

Bids, Offers, or Purchasers can be placed on any item on any page event where you see the Place Bid, Make Offer, or Buy Now button.
On a Timed Auction, only the Place Bid button will be displayed.

INCREMENTAL BIDDING

  • Incremental bids place the next incremental bid for the item/lot
  • Bidding increment values will vary depending on the item
  • The increment is displayed below the current bid price
  • Once you have placed the incremental bid, the box at the bottom of the item/lot listing will turn green to show that you are winning
  • If a red box is returned your bid is either not high enough to reach the reserve, or another user has placed an auto bid in the item/lot

AUTOBID / MAX BID

  • Auto bidding allows you to place the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item

MAKE OFFER

  • On some items you may have the option to pre-purchase prior to the closing date.
  • These items will display a Make Offer button.
  • Should your offer be rejected you may have further attempts to pre-purchase the item if the Dunquip allows.
  • Once your final offer is rejected you will be unable to submit any further offers for that item.
  • However, you will still be able to place incremental or Autobids on the item.
  • Note that you have a limited number of offer allowances. If you make an offer and it is the same or lower than your bid, you will receive an error message but it will still remove one of your offer allowances.

BUY NOW

  • In some auctions, including the Marketplace, items may be listed for sale at a set price.
  • The listed price is displayed on the button e.g. ‘Buy Now R1000’.
  • To buy the item simply click the button once you are logged in and approved.
  • After you have confirmed your purchase the item will be marked as sold on the site and you will be sent an email detailing the transaction

How to set up lot alerts?

Lot Alerts are a great way for you to keep up to date with the items you want.
Each time new items are added that match a search criteria set, you will receive an email clearly showing how many new results have been returned and where to find them.
You are in complete control as to when you wish to receive your alerts and you can edit, pause or delete your alerts at any point, all within My Alerts.

SETTING UP ALERTS

  • Log into your account and click on My Account
  • Select My Alerts from the drop down menu
  • Click on the Create New Alert button
  • In the pop up window you should now insert an appropriate name for your alert, e.g. Excavator for Mining project
  • Next, input your search criteria. This can be a simple open search such as “ Excavator”
  • Now tick the boxes to select which days you wish to receive your alerts (for example you may choose to only receive alerts on a Monday)
  • Finally, click Save
  •   Your alerts will now appear in a list on the screen
  •   You can manage your alerts at any time by pressing the action buttons in line with the Alert name:
  •    Press pause button to pause the alert with the ability to enable it again later
  •    Press the pencil icon to edit the alert
  •    Press the bin icon to delete the alert

You can also press View under results to see any items returned by your Alerts

Once you have set up an alert, you will be emailed any new items matching your search criteria that have been added since your last alert. This will contain links to view these items and to bid once the items are live.
